Perpetual Groove
The genre-spanning band Perpetual Groove has had a “record” run over the last year. With the release of two new studio projects, Heal, a full length record, and Honey Cuts, an EP and a slew of sell out performances, the band has been reinvigorated with the addition of new keyboardist, John Hruby. Hailing from Athens, GA, this legendary band has once again reinvented their sound. A line-up adjustment and a change in scenery have given way to a beautiful, timeless set of recordings and live show that signifies the rebirth of a band that’s carved out their own unique sound by performing nearly 1000 live shows in their brief career.

Meet Tauk, a band that delivers a unique blend of funk, jazz, pop and rock with a fresh, experimental spirit. Since forming earlier this decade, the Long Island-based quartet have built an impressive DIY buzz, scoring opening gigs for O.A.R, MOE, Robert Randolph & the Family Band, 311, Tea Leaf Green, as well as earning slots at top festivals like Gathering of the Vibes (alongside Buddy Guy and Bob Weir and Ratdog) and being featured on Fuse TV.
Grammy-winning producer Robert Carranza [Jack Johnson, Mars Volta] helped Tauk harness their eclectic vision, collaborating with the band for 3 months. "What's compelling is the raw power of the band, from their light moments to full-out jamming. Music is a language that some feel and others speak – and Tauk do both very well" adds Carranza.
Tauk's tunes are adventurous in scope, but the band's origins are humble. Bassist Charlie Dolan, keyboardist-organist Alric "A.C." Carter and guitarist Matt Jalbert met as teenagers in middle school and instantly connected over a shared passion for music. When the band moved on to high school, they met drummer Adam Akpinar.
While most high-school bands break up when they head off to college, Tauk's musical bond survived over long distances. All four members majored in music in college, and Tauk regularly performed over school breaks. After graduating, they hit the road in the fall/winter of 2010 to play nearly 40 shows in a national tour playing in almost all of the major and small markets across the country. During this time they had the opportunity to open for largely established acts like Robert Randolph, MOE, 311, and Tea Leaf Green.
Presently, Tauk is working to complete an EP comprised of all instrumental music. They plan to continue to push the envelope of their musical vision, and bring that vision to all those who are listening around the country.
Now, prepare to meet Tauk (yes, short for Montauk), a band that deliver a unique blend of funk, jazz, pop and rock with a fresh, experimental spirit. On their debut, Tauk have crafted eleven gems that dip into everything from soaring rock anthems ("Eye to Eye") to knotty, jazz-funk odysseys ("Snoopy's Revenge") to gorgeous, breezy ballads ("Turn Me In"). But don't peg Tauk as a jam band: cuts like "Hiker" and "Does It Matter" show these five gifted musicians have a talent for mixing in atmospheric, boundary-pushing experimentation not all unlike their influences Radiohead, Wilco and Phish.
