A Song Is A Weapon. So goes the title of a track from The North – the latest stunning offering from Canada’s best kept secret indie institution – STARS. And with those fighting words, STARS are back, having never gone away. Over the course of more than a decade together, STARS have consistently proven themselves adept at producing incisively sharp, beautifully orchestrated pop music. Their sixth album, The North, is no exception. In many ways, it is their finest record to date – a culmination of all they have learned and lost; a record of what it is to love today, of how to live a life in music.
The North finds STARS older, not wiser, still fighting and loving; still making music because now, more than ever, it is in their blood; it is all they know how to do. STARS have survived attacks and success, trends and life; death and drama both. They present here, in The North, plainly and honestly, a document that speaks moments to decades, inches to cascades.
Listen with an open heart. There are rewards in song, always. Here, they count.

Diamond Rings

Diamond Rings defies laws of time and space. Electro-pop maestro John O makes music that exists outside specific eras, distilling encyclopedic knowledge and passion into laser-like beams of emotional immediacy. Physical limits don't bother him much, either. True to his D.I.Y. background, he composes highly personal songs in a tiny bedroom studio in Toronto's West End, yet is increasingly concerned with Diamond Rings reaching the widest possible audience. But don't be confused by these twists and ripples. A degree in astrophysics isn't mandatory to appreciate Free Dimensional, the second Diamond Rings full-length. A good heart and working ears are all the tools required. Out now, the first single “I’m Just Me,” a brooding fusion of synth-pop and electro-house dynamics, exploring a lyrical theme of self-empowerment and desire. Remixes available by Yelle, DJ Reidiculous, Moto and Jakob Lito. These 10 magical songs retains melodicism, clever juxtapositions, and lyrical honesty that won high praise from Pitchfork, The New York Times, NME, Rolling Stone and Many more for John’s 2010 debut ‘Special Affections.’
