Below an iconic logo on a bright red Abstract Impressionist sleeve, TNGHT are described as “Hudson Mohawke X Lunice”. The multiply sign is intended. This is not the sound of two producers bouncing off each other. This is the sound of 2 of the very best new producers in the industry amplifying each other.

Hudson Mohawke and Lunice were already some of the hottest names in new electronic music and hip hop. With a string of independent releases for Lunice, and a world’s worth of touring – he met Warp Records rising star, Hudson Mohawke, back on early club touring in 2008. Now, pooling their talents as TNGHT, they are helping to redefine the state of new pop, dance music and hip hop in a wholly fresh fusion; born of this A.D.D generation looking towards the internet but equally born of vinyl culture, sample chopping and digging.

Flashback to mid 2011. Locked down in a small basement studio underneath Soho, London, the duo sank a bottle of cheap whisky and produced some of the most exciting, unashamedly bombastic club music of the year. The 5 track debut came together in a matter of nights – finding its home in a suitably collaborative fashion between Warp & LuckyMe Records.

The project debuted with a small show at SXSW 2012, their thundering productions inadvertently shattering a huge glass wall and causing an explosion of glowing press from Pitchfork to MTV to Rap Radar. The hype took hold in the few months lead-in to the July release, culminating in a packed out debut London show, complete with security desperately defending the booth from armies of riotous stage invaders. In the 6 months following the debut show, their live shows transitioned from 250 capacity club events to headlining major festival stages.

Promo videos made from footage of the launch night, cut with atmospheric New York shots, took the group and their stage production into a sort of mythic YouTube status, clocking in well over 2 Million combined views across the 5 short ep tracks, with TNGHT’s ‘Higher Ground’ now having more views than Stevie Wonders anthem of the same name.

Come release date, the 5 track instrumental rap EP had even dipped its toes into the US Billboard chart, the tracks made surprise appearances in Kanye West’s Paris fashion show, MTV’s VMA Awards ceremony and the duo were approached to provide the official remix to Waka Flocka’s single Rooster in my Rari.

They were featured in print from Dazed to Interview to The Guardian to Vice to Notion – and many more in between. DJ support flooded in from across the spectrum, from Kanye West to Calvin Harris, the indie / dance transcendent Thom Yorke to techno god Richie Hawtin.

It’s undeniable. TNGHT have emerged to take the helm of hip hop & pop music. And with a depth and all together fresher frame of reference and an air of boundless ambition, who knows where this could end up.
