East London’s Alfa Mist makes the kind of modern music that subtly shows its influences: “Warm, subtle jazz rubs shoulders with hip-hop and R&B in an evocative album that hits the sweet spot between accessible and experimental,” says The Guardian of Variables, the pianist-songwriter-MC’s just-released fifth studio long-player. And having just launched an American tour in support of it, Alfa Mist charmed an enthralled Music Hall of Williamsburg crowd on Saturday, his first of two local weekend shows.
